Dr. Rita Lucarelli

Rita Lucarelli studied at the University of Naples “L’Orientale,” Italy, where she took her MA degree in Classical Languages and Egyptology. She holds her Ph.D. from Leiden University, The Netherlands (2005) and her Ph.D. thesis was published in 2006 as The Book of the Dead of Gatseshen: Ancient Egyptian Funerary Religion in the 10th Century BC. From 2009 until 2012 she has worked as Research Scholar at the Book of the Dead Project of the University of Bonn, Germany. She has been Visiting Research Scholar at the Italian Academy of Advanced Studies of Columbia University and of the Institute for the Study of the Ancient World (ISAW) of NYU. Currently, she works at the Department of Near Eastern Studies of the University of California, Berkeley as Assistant Professor of Egyptology. She is writing her Habilitation thesis on demonology in ancient Egypt, which should be published within next year.
